The current Dodge Challenger has been around since 2008. However, the history of the model goes back to 1969. Even then, the Challenger was supposed to bring top performance and a comparatively affordable price in line – in the spirit of American muscle cars. But the long history of the horsepower bolides with great thirst is gradually coming to an end. Even Dodge, now part of the Stellantis group, had to accept that. The all-American car manufacturer is not going to miss the last hurray, and as part of the so-called “Last Call” is bringing seven vehicles onto the market with which they want to say goodbye to an era of excess. Among the models are cars like the Challenger Black Ghost or the Charger Super Bee. However, Dodge saved the grand finale until the end – probably also because the engineers had to eliminate unplanned problems with the engine.

Only the wide wheel arches and the air intake on the hood suggest that this is not a Sunday carriage. The same applies to the interior – because there is not much going on here. The music plays under the hood of the Challenger SRT Demon 170. There is a 6.2-liter V8 engine with a whopping 1039 hp when you fill up the car with E85 fuel. Hence the number in the model name: 170 refers to the fuel designation “Proof 170”. Incidentally, exact figures for fuel consumption are not available, but to “” Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis described it as “terrible”. The injectors can deliver 620 liters per hour at full throttle. However, the tank only holds 70 liters.

The car is designed entirely to cover the infamous quarter mile as quickly as possible. Top speed is not that important and at 243 km/h it is very manageable. However, the car manages to sprint from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in less than 2 seconds, and the traditional racing distance of exactly 402.34 meters is covered in 8.91 seconds. The acceleration forces are said to be 2g, the torque at 1281 Newton meters. With these values, it is not surprising that the car took off a little at its presentation in Las Vegas because of the power when it started – just like in the film “The Fast and the Furious”.

However, the car can only call up its full performance if you order it with a roll bar and parachute – this is required by the National Hot Rod Association from a certain performance.

The Challenger SRT Demon 170 is to be built at most 3300 times, with Dodge wanting to make it dependent on production capacity how many cars actually roll off the assembly line. The base price for the car is $96,666.
