Transporter of the future: Porsche presents new plans for electric bus

Porsche has presented its plans for a possible new electric bus under the name “Race Service”. The transporter impresses with its futuristic design and innovative interior.

The German sports car manufacturer Porsche presented a study for an electric minibus three years ago. Now the Stuttgart-based company is going one step further and is publishing pictures and plans of the planned “Race Service” for the first time. Porsche is thus getting closer and closer to its vision of an electric sports van based on the model of the VW racing service van.

Porsche is breaking new ground with its racing service

The Porsche vision “Race Service” includes some very atypical features for the company, such as a family-friendly design with space for up to six people. Regardless of this, thanks to its characteristic curves, the van can immediately be recognized as a Porsche.

The electric bus has a white hard model with a striking blue trim. Atypically there are no windows for the passengers. Instead, light came into the interior through a large sun canopy and the rear window. The headlights are X-shaped and there are cameras on the exterior mirrors.

Electric bus is transformed into living space

In the interior, too, little is reminiscent of the classic Porsche models. The electric bus has a central lounge chair without an additional passenger seat. The slightly offset seats in the second row still have a clear view of the street thanks to their arrangement. In addition, both seats have their own screen on the dashboard. In addition to the screens, haptic buttons also retain their raison d’etre. Although the electric bus is a foray in the direction of autonomous driving, the sports car manufacturer still wants to offer its owners a real driving experience.

Interior of the Porsche "Race Service"

In the back of the car, a continuous bench invites you to transport up to three other passengers. The headrests float freely and provide an unobstructed view through the rear window. All three permanently installed seats can be rotated 180 degrees so that a kind of living space is created in the middle of the car.

Developers want to inspire young audiences

With the innovative interior, the developers want to appeal to a younger audience in particular. For future generations, it is not just about the aesthetics of a car, but rather about the possibilities, according to Ivo van Hulten. The Dutchman designed the “Race Service” together with the heads of design Michael Mauer and Markus Auerbach. The electric bus is one of 15 previously secret design studies that have now been presented to the public.

So far, Porsche has only presented the electric bus as an idea, but the similarities to the already confirmed ID.Buzz from VW suggest that the Stuttgart-based company also wants to get serious about fully electric and autonomous driving.
