VW ID.EVY1: This is what the Volkswagen electric car looks like for 20,000 euros

With the VW ID.EVY1 study, VW provides an outlook on ID.1 that is to be released in 2027. The entry price of around 20,000 euros is a declaration of war on BYD, Chery & Co.

When designers speak of a potion or the “Secret Sauce”, it becomes interesting. Especially when it comes to such an important study as the VW ID.EVERY1, which gives a first look at VW ID.1. Probably one of the most important cars of the core brand VW in the next five years. Because with a targeted price of around 20,000 euros, the Wolfsburgers want to beat a snippet in the volume segment of the small electric cars. However, the “Secret Sauce” does not refer to this Wolfburg price-combat announcement, but to the fact that the roof of the concept car is lower in the middle. The wide gutter not only serves the pure effects, in combination with the two small roof spoilers on the left and right, it improves aerodynamics and thus also the range.

VW ID.EVERY1 is compact

The study of the city flea stands there: With a length of 3.88 meters, the ID.EVERY1 is 1.82 meters wide and only 1.49 meters high. The short overhangs and the 19-inch wheels contribute to the sporty-dynamic appearance. It remains to be seen whether the tires make it into the series version with these dimensions. Thank God the VW designers do not make the mistake of giving the four-door small car a everyday look with narrow LED slots and a beak. The vertically standing daytime running lights can be found at both ends of the electricity on the outside in the bumpers. The pupils in the headlights increase the sympathy factor. Welcome light signatures establish an emotional connection between man and machine, even if necessary, communicate with the other road users.

Electromobility

VW shows e-car for 20,000 euros-but there is a hurdle for customers

The city car can be recognized immediately as a VW. The face with the clip between the headlights moves away from that of the current ID family and is more reminiscent of a classic polo. A trick of the retro formal language, which was already successful with sympathizers such as the Renault 5, which by the way is around four centimeters longer than the VW concept study. With the already mentioned length of 3.88 meters, the VW ID.EVERY1 is part of the VW Up and the current Polo. Opulent space in the rear are therefore not to be expected, even if the new modular e-drive construction kit (MEB) with the front wheel drive favors a good room economy.

Even if an electric architecture enables an airier interior due to the construction with a flat floor, even the VW interior architects cannot do magic. To optimally use the existing room, rely on variability in furniture. The passenger seat can be folded down in just a few simple steps or transformed into a safe transportation for animals. The same applies to the back seat. The center console can be moved on a rail system in the longitudinal direction and can also be used by the passengers in the rear. Fachtoplards are integrated into the console on both sides.

No range giant

Further details show that such a small car should turn into a lounge: the materials are almost predominantly recyclable and thus exude a feel -good atmosphere. There is a rail on the passenger side, into which a table for working or a tablet can be attached. This saves yourself expensive screens. In keeping with this, the interior is detoxified. The infotainment is largely operated via a large tablet touchscreen. Below the monitor, in the doors and especially in the spokes of the steering wheel flattened above and below, there are also analog controls. A good decision. Keyword: driver distraction. The way it looks, the Wolfsburgers said goodbye to the volume control channels.

It is obvious that such a small car is not equipped with huge batteries. On the one hand, they drive up the price, on the other hand, unnecessary weight comes into the car. Since ID.1 will not be a long -distance car, we assume energy storage with a capacity of around 40 kilowatt hours and 55 kWh. The entry price of around 20,000 euros cannot be realized differently. ID.1 will probably run off the assembly line in Spain because wage and energy costs are too high in Germany. It will be exciting to see what the versions of the subsidiaries Cupra and especially Skoda will look like. Above all, the Czechs will find it difficult to undercut this price.
