Around the turn of the year there will traditionally be an increase in ticket prices, but the aim is to have a stabilizing effect and measure them well below the inflation rate, says Matthä. He couldn’t give an exact number.
With a view to the expansion of the southern route, Matthä was confident that the schedules would ultimately stick. An important link in the new north-south connection is the Semmering Base Tunnel, the construction of which was recently delayed. “In the end, of course, the mountain determines how long we need here and it gives us quite a lot of work,” said the ÖBB chairman. However, one is convinced that the project can be finalized by 2030 as planned.
