Tobacco representatives in the Chamber resign in protest

“Due to a lack of political support” on issues that are important for tobacconists, such as tobacconist allocation, the minimum trading margin and the further development of the tobacco monopoly, tobacconist boss Josef Prirschl and the two deputies Otmar Schwarzenbohler and Andreas Schiefer are resigning from their positions as of today, December 1st, the officials announced.

“Despite multiple efforts, the demands of the federal body remain unheard,” it said in a broadcast on Thursday. The tobacconist’s contract has been delayed for a year, and politicians have not submitted an amendment to the indexing of the minimum trading margin. “An increase of four percent in times of inflation rates of ten percent is completely unacceptable for the federal body,” said the industry representatives.
