Despite high inflation and supply chain problems, the US car company Tesla was able to increase its profit by 128 percent to $ 12.6 billion (11.6 billion euros) last year. Sales increased by 51 percent to 75.8 billion euros.
“It was a fantastic year, our best so far,” said company boss Elon Musk at the presentation of the figures on Wednesday evening. For this year, however, he expects a “very difficult recession”.
Nevertheless, the group is preparing for rapid growth: production capacity was roughly doubled in 2022. Musk is planning more models, with the long-awaited Cybertruck finally set to go into production this year and Tesla opening up the lucrative US pickup truck market.
The company mainly blamed the situation in China for the production and delivery problems last year, where Covid lockdowns put a heavy strain on the large plant in Shanghai. Tesla recently had a difficult time on the stock exchange. The share price collapsed by 65 percent last year. In the end, however, things went slightly uphill again.

Change of management at Toyota
At the largest car company in the world, Toyota, there is a generation change at the top of the company. The longstanding CEO, Akio Toyoda (66), is retiring to the supervisory board. The new boss of the company is to be Koji Sato, who was previously responsible for the business for the luxury brand Lexus and the motorsport activities of the Toyota group.
The previous CEO Toyoda is the grandson of the company founder Kiichiro Toyoda.
