Housing policy: Demand for more money for climate-friendly new construction

While billions have recently been made available, climate-friendly construction is apparently being neglected by the federal government this year. The responsible association finds clear words.

The Federal Association of German Housing and Real Estate Companies (GdW) is demanding more money from the federal government for climate-friendly new construction. “I think we had almost 13 billion last year. And this year 750 million have been made available. That is of course a striking difference,” said the association’s general manager, Ingeborg Esser, on Monday in the ZDF “Morgenmagazin”. .

Despite higher environmental standards, the association representative also calls for cost controls on rents. “We’ve already noticed that with ever-increasing environmental standards, construction is becoming even more expensive.” Esser said rents shouldn’t just go up.

In addition, the central association of the housing industry is pushing for a procurement strategy for scarce building materials. The capacities for necessary building materials such as steel and wood must be secured.
