Beer brands: call for warning strikes at Beck’s, Hasseröder and Diebels

Members of the NGG union have been called on warning strikes at breweries of three well-known beer brands belonging to the world’s largest brewing group. What is the union asking for?

The Food, Enjoyment and Restaurants Union (NGG) has called on its members to go on warning strikes at the Beck’s, Hasseröder and Diebels breweries. The union said the reason for this was insufficient offers from employers in collective bargaining. The three beer brands from Bremen, Wernigerode in Saxony-Anhalt and Issum in North Rhine-Westphalia belong to the largest brewery group in the world, the Anheuser-Busch (AB) InBev group from Belgium.

According to NGG, the strikes at Beck’s should begin on Wednesday evening between 10 p.m. and midnight. On Thursday afternoon there will be two more two-hour warning strike events.

“The production lines will also stop in Issum and Wernigerode on Thursday after similar employer offers,” announced the union. It demands 12 percent more money over a period of one year and a 150-euro increase in trainee remuneration.

In addition, apprentices should be taken on for an unlimited period and receive subsidies, for example for local transport and rent. “The offer of 2.6 percent, a one-time payment and alms for the trainees is provocation enough for the employees to go outside after the first round of negotiations,” explained NGG representative Björn Bauer. Production at Beck’s in Bremen had already been on hold for several hours in April last year due to a warning strike.
