voestalpine-Railway Systems, a subsidiary of the Linz-based steel and technology group voestalpine, has landed the largest order in the company’s history: The company is responsible for the design, delivery and service of points, drives and rail expansions including diagnostic systems for the new British high-speed network “High Speed ​​2” responsible. The order volume is 237 million euros. In addition, voestalpine supplies other major international projects with premium rails, high-speed switches and signaling technology: the order volume totals around EUR 600 million, as was announced in a broadcast today, Thursday.

High Speed ​​2 is a 275-kilometer north-south high-speed link. The transport capacity is around 300,000 passengers a day. voestalpine Railway Systems is supplying 320 switch systems with drives for this. In the future, the monitoring software will permanently record the status of the infrastructure and report deviations in real time. “This record order confirms our strategy and our global competence in this segment. The railway infrastructure sector has been developing extremely satisfactorily for years,” says voestalpine CEO Herbert Eibensteiner.

voestalpine Railway Systems, which offers hardware and software from a single source, was able to secure further orders in the infrastructure sector: Switches and welded rails will also be supplied to Australia’s Sydney Trains over the next five years. This order is worth 220 million euros.

Sales in the 2021/22 financial year were 1.5 billion euros. 7200 employees are employed, 1500 in Austria.
