Rail traffic: Strikes in France cause train cancellations in Germany

Train travelers need strong nerves: because of the strikes in France, some trains are not running as planned. Which routes are affected.

Because of the ongoing strikes in France against the planned pension reform, rail traffic to Germany will remain restricted tomorrow. The French state railway SNCF also advised to postpone planned trips for the weekend.

Two-fifths of the trains are to run from the ICE and TGV trains on the connection from Paris via Saarbrücken and Kaiserslautern or Strasbourg and Karlsruhe to Frankfurt and Stuttgart. One of the Thalys trips from Paris to Cologne is cancelled, the night train from Paris to southern Germany and Vienna does not run on Friday evening.

Travelers also have to prepare for failures in regional traffic to France. Some of the trains on the routes from Saarbrücken to Metz and Strasbourg will be eliminated. No cancellations were initially announced on the other regional routes, such as between Offenburg and Strasbourg.

France’s government wants to gradually raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. In addition, the number of payment years required for a full pension should increase more quickly. The unions consider the project to be unfair. There have been repeated strikes and protests against the reform in recent weeks. This should be brought through Parliament at the end of March.
