At the start of the week, travelers have to be prepared for longer waiting times and numerous flight cancellations at airports in the north and in the capital. Verdi has again called for industrial action.
Warning strikes have begun at the airports in Hamburg and Hanover and at the capital’s airport Berlin-Brandenburg BER. After the employees at the north German airports had stopped work on Sunday evening, the security staff at BER followed early Monday morning. A Verdi spokesman confirmed this early Monday morning. The union also called on employees at Bremen Airport to stop working by midnight.
Passengers would again have to be prepared for significant delays and cancellations at several airports in Germany. Around 200 departures have been canceled at BER alone. According to the airport, around 27,000 passengers are affected. The airport assumed that about a third of the approximately 200 planned landings would be canceled, as a spokesman said on Sunday. The warning strikes at the north German airports are also likely to have an impact on other locations. Airports advised travelers to check flight status with their airline.
According to the union, the reason for this is the unsuccessful collective bargaining for the payment of aviation security employees for working at inconvenient times. But negotiations for employees in ground handling services and employees in the public sector at federal and local level also played a role.
