The Knowledge Economy in one of the three main sectors of Argentine exports

The Minister of Economy, Sergio Massa, inaugurated this Thursday night the first edition of the EconAr fair.“The knowledge economy in one of the three main sectors of Argentine exports,” he said. The event will take place from 17 to 19 in La Rural, with free admission.

Massa participated tonight in the opening of the fair EconAr, the first national meeting of the sector that will bring together in the city of Buenos Aires -between Friday and Sunday- young people, entrepreneurs, businessmen and academics from the sector, with the aim of strengthening federal economies and publicizing training opportunities and employment in the industry.

There, together with the Secretary of the Knowledge Economy, Ariel Sujarchuk, and the CEO of Accenture, Sofia Vago, Massa highlighted the importance of the sector and focused on the joint work between the State and the private sector to promote employment and technological innovation.

“All Argentines who want to come will be able to discover, visit and find out about the enormous talent, creativity, investment, technology and development that Argentina has somehow carried out in these years and that transform the Knowledge Economy sector into one of the three main players in Argentine exports”said.

To exemplify the Argentine potential, Massa placed a picosatellite from the Argentine company Innova Space on his hand. “It was originally developed by a technical school in Mar del Plata, with a teacher from José C. Paz,” he explained and added: “It’s worth $150,000. Last year we sold and there are four more on the way.”

Following this line, he drew a parallel with agribusiness: “One thought in this year of harsh drought that we have to face, how many tons of soybeans are needed to complement Argentine currencies with picosatellite. Almost 300 tons. But in reality, it more valuable is the talent of the people transformed into knowledge and export of knowledge”.

Likewise, he said that those who visit the fair will be able to see this development, as well as that of Argentine notebooks, and questioned those who defend the uncontrolled entry of imported technology. “Some defend that the imported ones come. We want the imported ones to come but that they compete on equal terms with the local ones. We cannot punish the parts that are imported to manufacture the notebooks here and not charge them for the finished product that is manufactured in other countries “, he explained.

On the other hand, he referred to the role of the knowledge economy in biotechnology and nanotechnology, highlighting how they have managed to increase the value of Argentine soil products. “With added value, some multiply 10 or even 40 times their value,” he highlighted and added: “From Invap to hundreds of companies that sell products to the world, are some of the turbines of our Argentina”.

At the same time, he referred to the need to have an orderly economy that can sell more than it buys. “Today that equation is inverted. The equation does not close like this. It will close the day we have the capacity 10 or even 100 times the Knowledge Economy,” he said.

However, he assured that the country is on the right track since today “Argentina distinguishes itself”. “Argentine startups stand out in the world, Argentine technology companies gain market in the world,” he said.

In addition, he pointed out that at a global level “Argentine talent is valued and chosen”, which is “neither more nor less than having a free university system that allows us to prepare our people”. On the other hand, he referred to state investment in the plan Argentina Program “to give it the power that allows us to sell more Argentine work to the world.”

At the end, he invited all Argentines to “virtually tour” the EconAr fair and those who have the opportunity to get closer to it can do so “because they will be able to see what Argentines are capable of.” “It is Argentina for the world and we have to feel proud,” he concluded.
