In January 2023, supermarket sales at constant prices rose 0.8% compared to the same month in 2022 and 5.3% compared to December.

Supermarket sales at constant prices rose 0.8% year-on-year and 5.3% compared to December. For his part, wholesale sales grew 0.1% compared to the last month of 2022 but rose 2% year-on-year, INDEC reported this afternoon.

The supermarket sales at current prices, for January 2023 surveyed in the Supermarket Survey, totaled $316,671.9 millionwhich represents an increase of 104.9% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In total sales at current prices, during January 2023, the item groups with the most significant increases compared to the same month of the previous year were: “Greengrocers and greengrocers”, with 153.9%; “Prepared foods and rotisserie”, with 130.2%; “Drinks”, with 127.9%; and “Bakery”, with 118.4%.

In wholesale self-services, during January, sales at current prices made in cash amounted to $92,100,213 thousand, which represents 29.1% of total sales and shows an increase of 96.1% compared to January 2022.

On the other hand, those carried out through debit card totaled $100,528,761 thousand, which represents 31.7% of total sales and a positive variation of 118.3% compared to the same month of the previous year.

Sales at current prices paid with credit card totaled $112,008,589 thousandwhich represents 35.4% of total sales and a percentage variation compared to January 2022 of 107.2%.

Finally, those made through other means of payment amounted to $12,034,313 thousand, which represents 3.8% of the total and shows an increase of 61.5% compared to the same month of the previous year.
