“The work will be tendered next week by the Energía Argentina company and has a completion stage in June 2024, which will allow the country to save another US$2,000 million by replacing energy imports and lowering the cost of electricity generation” , Massa specified. Subsequently, it can also be exported to northern Chile, central Brazil and Bolivia, Massa said.
This is a gas pipeline that will take natural gas to the center and north of the country from the Vaca Muerta unconventional hydrocarbons field.
“Not only is it useful in energy matters, it not only guarantees gas for our industrial development and for the supply of central and northern Argentina, but it also makes it possible to think of an Argentina that exports energy, which is essential for us,” explained the minister.
This work also means “that it can begin to be a supplier of all the development of the mining sector and allows us to stop depending on gas imports in northern Argentina and advance, obviously, in supplying gas six times cheaper than what we are paying today,” he added.
The Government seeks to boost the production of Vaca Muerta, which has the second unconventional gas reserves in the world and the fourth oil, to reverse a significant deficit in the energy trade balance, at a time when the country has to take care of the scarce reserves of currencies held by the central bank.
With this objective, the construction and start-up of a trunk gas pipeline that will link Vaca Muerta, in the Patagonian province of Neuquén, with Buenos Aires will be completed in about 40 days and in a second stage, in 2024, it will reach the province of Santa Faith, to be able to export to Brazil.
“Today we are winning in energy sovereignty”, said President Alberto Fernández during an act in which the progress of the construction of that gas pipeline was shown.
“Argentina today is saving between 2,000 and 3,000 million dollars of energy that previously had to be imported at the expense of our reserves,” he added.
