The first Airbus aircraft was delivered to Lufthansa in 1976. In the meantime it has become exactly 600.
Aircraft manufacturer Airbus handed over the 600th aircraft to Lufthansa in Hamburg on Wednesday. The Airbus A321neo with the registration D-AIEQ bears the baptismal name of the city of Münster and was given a special paint finish for the anniversary, which shows the number 600 in large numbers.
“Lufthansa and Airbus share a very special partnership. We have been working closely and trustingly together on many new developments and research projects since Airbus was founded,” said Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr at the handover at the Hamburg Airbus plant in Finkenwerder. After Seattle (Boeing) and Toulouse (Airbus), the Hanseatic city is the world’s third largest location for aircraft construction. Spohr emphasized that Lufthansa had already been the launch customer for Airbus aircraft four times, most recently with the A320neo model.
According to Airbus boss Guillaume Faury, Lufthansa has taken over an average of one Airbus aircraft every month since the first delivery of an A300 in 1976. “No other airline group has received more deliveries to date.”
