Energy: Habeck “patient” when preferring the exit from coal

The minister would like to make an earlier phase-out of coal dependent on the conditions. Which are they?

Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) is not aiming for a quick decision on a possible advance of the coal phase-out from 2038 to 2030 in eastern Germany. “I’m patient, we can make that dependent on the conditions,” Habeck said today after a conversation with Brandenburg’s Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke (CDU) in Potsdam. “The debate about phasing out coal should be based on the possibility.”

First of all, the conditions for an earlier phase-out of coal would have to be created, for example with the rapid expansion of renewable energies by 2030 and with hydrogen-capable power plants. “We need affordability, reliability and security of supply and then climate neutrality as quickly as possible.”
