Plane: brass band music at the start: Lufthansa is flying again with the A380

The plane from Munich to Boston was almost fully booked. What are Lufthansa’s future plans?

After a three-year break, Lufthansa has resumed scheduled operations with the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380. The first plane left Munich for Boston at 3:35 p.m. today – after saying goodbye with brass band music and gingerbread hearts for all passengers. It was almost fully booked, said company spokeswoman Bettina Rittberger.

Lufthansa intends to station four A380s in Munich this year, with two more to come as reserves in the winter. In June, Boston is the only destination, and New York will be added from July 4th. With the change to the winter timetable in October, the aircraft with 509 seats will fly to Los Angeles and Bangkok instead.

Lufthansa had already taken the four-engine A380 out of the fleet for reasons of efficiency before the Corona lull and parked it in Spain. But due to the sharp increase in demand for airline tickets and the delayed delivery of ordered aircraft, Lufthansa has decided to reactivate the A380, which is popular with passengers and crews.
