You get a very good overview of knowledge, right down to the level of detail that a manager needs, for example in the areas of project management, sales, leadership and strategy development. It is the knowledge for the managers of the future”says Carmen Hinterobermaier: The 39-year-old from Linz completed an MBA program at the IBSA (International Business School Austria) part-time last year after she was awarded a partial scholarship from the OÖN. But she didn’t complete the IBSA course, which has branches in Graz, Linz and Vienna, alone: her partner Michael Brandl also decided to take part: “I said, if you win the scholarship, I’ll take part.”
Brandl (44), who worked for a long time at voestalpine and other industrial companies and now heads the business development department at mechanical engineering company Anger in Traun, studied at the Montanuni Leoben and wanted to “always do an executive MBA”.
Carmen Hinterobermaier has “Medical informatics” and later part-time “Hospital management” educated. Today she heads the project management service area at the Ordensklinikum Linz. “I was particularly interested in studying under the US system.”
Very practical
Another advantage was the exchange with professors and fellow students: “The participants come from a wide variety of areas, from medicine to technology to sales”says Brandl. Those who would benefit most would be those who already have professional experience and may already be leading a small team.
The training lasts 15 months, and the US professors come to Austria regularly: “You gave practical examples, which had a completely different value”says Hinterobermaier.
A highlight was the graduation in California: “Getting to know the mentality of the Americans and the flat hierarchies was something special.” The conclusion of the two is positive: “The course gave us a lot of self-confidence and a great respect for each other and also bonded us together.” You not only benefit professionally, but also privately.
