Survey: Every second wedding couple is indebted to the celebration

Opinion poll
Every second wedding couple is responsible for the celebration

The wedding should be the most beautiful day of life for most couples. This can also become a financial challenge, as a survey shows.

Because getting married is in the money, most wedding couples save for the celebration. Only twelve percent of the respondents of a survey commissioned by the financial service provider Raisin (Weltsfaren) state that they have not put anything back for the festival. 28 percent even save more than three years to the big day.

Almost half of the respondents (48 percent) stated that they were in debt for the celebration. Often, however, only in the short term, because at least part of the costs comes back in the form of money gifts. 85 percent of the guests therefore give money on average 140 euros per person. Men, at least according to their own statements, are somewhat more generous than women at 151 euros, who have an average of 117 euros.

This would pay off for many wedding couples, because 46.6 percent estimate the costs of their celebration to a maximum of 100 euros per guest. It could also be worthwhile to invite older people over the age of 60, of which around a quarter donate more than 300 euros. The close of the relationship or friendship is primarily crucial for the amount of the gift sum. Only 14 percent are based on the size of the celebration and the associated effort.
