TUI reports somewhat higher demand for traveling in summer

Spain and Portugal are also in demand this summer as a travel destination. In addition, cruises are at the top of the wish list of many holidaymakers. Does the weak dollar help with the price?

After the last delayed bookings, the travel group again reports improved demand for the summer. “At the beginning of June we sold over 60 percent of summer in Germany, just more than last year on the appointment,” said CEO Sebastian Ebel of the “Rheinische Post”. The group had already sold 90 percent of its capacities for Spain and Portugal. “Mallorca will be the hit again, so it will be scarce.”

At the beginning of May, the summer bookings at TUI had one percent lower than a year earlier. The German market in particular lagged behind the previous year’s value. The travel group had justified this with a weak booking in the Easter holidays and announced a catch -up hunting.

According to EBEL, there is particularly high demand for cruises: “The boom on cruises is strong and sustainable. We see significant growth.” Meanwhile, the group reports in a declining demand for travel to the United States. “Tui doesn’t have a particularly large USA business, but we sometimes notice shifts,” said Ebel. Canada and the Caribbean were in trend. “Because the euro upgrades, more and more citizens are booking cheaper trips to these destinations as well as in the Gulf States or Southeast Asia for autumn/winter.”

In contrast, according to EBEL, travelers do not yet notice the devaluation of the US dollar when booking. Because TUI bought the necessary currencies in autumn or secured their course.
