“Royal Windsor Horse Show”: The Queen is back in public

The “Royal Windsor Horse Show” is currently taking place on the grounds of Windsor Castle. To the delight of the British, the Queen attended the horse show and was in a good mood.

She was represented by Prince Charles at the opening of the British Parliament and she will not attend the garden parties at Buckingham Palace this year either. Health problems, especially her limited mobility, recently forced Queen Elizabeth II to cancel several appointments.

But now the 96-year-old has appeared in public for the first time, at an event that is particularly close to her heart: the “Royal Windsor Horse Show”. At the tournament, which has been held on the grounds of Windsor Castle since 1943, riders compete in various disciplines, and numerous horse shows also take place. To kick off the four-day sporting event, the Queen was represented by her granddaughter Princess Beatrice, who walked the red carpet with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

On the second day of the equestrian tournament, the queen came in person, as photos from the British newspaper “Daily Mail” show. It shows how the 96-year-old is chauffeured to the site in a car. The Queen smiled and chatted to visitors. The Sun previously reported that the monarch had visited her 14 horses competing in the competitions. Conveniently, the Queen’s private quarters are just a few hundred yards from the stables at Windsor Castle.

The Queen’s great-grandchildren at the Royal Windsor Horse Show

The Queen is considered an absolute horse nut. At the age of three she sat in the saddle for the first time. She herself took part in the “Royal Windsor Horse Show” several times. In the 79 years of the competition, she has never missed a single one.

The Queen is also expected on Sunday evening, at the end of the tournament. Then a 90-minute show will take place, which will be broadcast live on TV in Great Britain. This is a program item on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the throne. Stars like Tom Cruise, Helen Mirren and Joan Collins will perform, and a 75-piece orchestra will play. A total of 1300 protagonists and 500 horses are involved.

An absolute highlight: Ten of the Queen’s great-grandchildren are to drive up in a carriage. Expecting are the three children of William and Kate and the children of Zara Tindall, who has two daughters and a son. Also Savannah and Isla Phillips, the two daughters of Peter Phillips. The children of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie could also get their first big appearance.

All this in the absence of the Queen? Actually unimaginable.
