In a new piece from the journalist Stuart Maconie in the english newspaper The New Statesman Titled “The War Within Pink Floyd,” the author references Waters’ current project to re-record the band’s iconic album. “The Dark Side Of The Moon”.
The article discussed the process, saying: “Parts of this will involve him removing, as the Spanish newspaper El País quotes, Gilmour’s ‘horrible guitar solos’.”
In a Facebook post, Waters took issue with the quote, calling the story “the usual poignant and ill-informed nonsense” and criticizing what he called the piece’s “undeserved condescending authority.”
Wrote: “There is a horrible article in The New Statesman, written, if you can call it writing, by a guy named Stuart Maconie. It’s the usual ill-informed, crap-stirring nonsense”.
“However, there is, in the article, something I need to set the record straight about. When talking about a new recording I’ve made of ‘DSOTM’, he writes, with undeserved and condescending authority, about the process of making this new recording, and I quote: ‘Part of this will involve me removing, as quoted in the Spanish daily El Periódico Pais, Gilmour’s ‘horrible guitar solos’.
“Now, I don’t know who you think you’re quoting when you say Gilmour’s ‘awful guitar solos’, but it sure as hell isn’t me. I was there, I love Dave’s guitar solos on ‘DSOTM’, on both, and ‘WYWH’ and ‘ANIMALS’ and ‘THE WALL’ and ‘THE FINAL CUT’.
“In my opinion, albeit biased, Dave’s solos on those albums constitute a collection of some of the best guitar solos in rock and roll history. So, Stuart Maconie, you little jerk, next time, please proofread your copy with the themes of your dirty little piece, before you go to print.”
