Originally intended to be a moviethe story will now unfold in a seven part series for the premium cable and streaming platform. According to the specialized media Deadline, HBO is close to giving the green light to the project.
“With the cooperation of Christiane Kubrick and Jan Harlanwe are setting up a great production for HBO based on Stanley’s original screenplay for Napoleon” confirmed Spielberg at the Berlinale, adding: “It’s going to be a seven-part miniseries.”

The original film had been planned by Kubrick after the success of 2001: A Space Odyssey. The director did extensive research on the French revolutionary leader and planned to shoot the film in France, the UK and Romania, with aus 40 thousand extras acting as soldiers. So much david hemmings as Jack Nicholson came close to playing Napoleon and audrey hepburn to his wife Josephine.
Even so, the expensive filming of War and Peace by Sergei Bondarchuk and the Waterloo business failure caused the project cancellation and that the efforts went to his 1975 film, barry lindon.
At the moment, Director Ridley Scott is filming his own movie about Napoleon’s life. It will star Joaquin Phoenix.
