Singer Pink: “Madonna doesn’t like me” – a joke went wrong

Singer Pink: “Madonna doesn’t like me” – a joke went wrong

Pink has never claimed to be everyone’s favourite, but she apparently inadvertently messed it up with Madonna, the singer admits in an interview.

Loud, a little cheeky and polarizing – that’s how the singer Pink has been throughout her music career. But not everyone can handle her humor. Apparently not Pink’s childhood icon, the singer Madonna.

Last Wednesday Pink was a guest on “The Howard Stern Show”. On the radio show, the host asked her if she was friends with big stars like Madonna, to which she quickly and matter-of-factly replied, “No. Madonna doesn’t like me.” Of course, the moderator’s statement resulted in questions about how it came about: “Some people just don’t like me, I’m a polarizing person,” said the singer.

But Stern added that “Madonna is a polarizing individual.” Pink agreed, saying she was a big fan of the singer as a child. Stern didn’t give up and finally wanted to know how it came that Pink assumes that Madonna doesn’t like her.

The pop star explained it started when the two singers visited the show together on Live with Regis and Kelly. An American morning show that has been around since the 80’s. Madonna invited her that day to visit her dressing room.

Pink made a joke about Madonna

“It’s such a stupid story,” said the 43-year-old. “I love Madonna and I do, no matter what happened, I still love her.” This is how she begins her story. “She was a huge inspiration to me, but at the time things got a little twisted. It was said that I was a fangirl and really wanted to meet her, when in fact she invited me backstage to her dressing room.” After the meeting, Pink made a joke that Madonna didn’t find amusing.

She went on to tell Stern how host Regis brought her out of the dressing room at the time and then asked, “How did it feel, I heard you almost rolled over backstage.” Pink let him run up and replied coldly: “Why? I thought she wanted to get to know me.”

“Somehow the joke didn’t ignite,” she continued to analyze the situation at the time. “That didn’t work out with the two of us.” Moderator Stern summarized: “So Madonna took the joke personally”.
