Andy Serkis: A red carpet eye-catcher in a green velvet coat

Actor Andy Serkis was one of the head-turners at the “Luther: The Fallen Sun” premiere. He appeared in a green velvet coat.

Basically, British actor Andy Serkis (58) always wears a black suit at premieres. But his look is never completely black. Sometimes it’s a yellow shirt, sometimes a steel blue one, sometimes a tartan detail that he combines with it. And he stayed true to this tradition at the world premiere of “Luther: The Fallen Sun” on Wednesday in London.

This time the artist, who became known worldwide through his role as Gollum/Sméagol in the 2001 to 2003 “The Lord of the Rings” films by director Peter Jackson (61), appeared in a green patterned velvet frock coat. He wore a silk shirt and black dress pants.

This is what Luther: The Fallen Sun is about

Almost four years after the end of the acclaimed crime series “Luther” with superstar Idris Elba (50) in the leading role, the film sequel “Luther: The Fallen Sun” is now starting on Netflix.

In the sequel to the eleven-time Emmy-nominated English series, the disgraced main character is in prison. Meanwhile, a psychopathic hacker and serial killer terrorizes London – and taunts the imprisoned John Luther. He decides to break out without further ado in order to put a stop to the culprit by any means necessary.

In addition to the main actor Elba, Dermot Crowley (75) also returns as Luther’s superior Martin Schenk. Andy Serkis (“Andor”), on the other hand, is new. He plays David Robey, a tech billionaire who uses surveillance technology to “manipulate and kill civilians”. It’s one of the “darkest roles” he’s ever played, “and I almost thought about not playing it.”
