Comedy star Goldie Hawn (77) regrets not personally accepting the Oscar trophy for her first film role in “The Cactus Blossom” in 1970. In a Variety interview, she said, “I regret it. It’s something that I look back on now and I’m like, ‘It would have been so great if I could have done that.'”
In her own words, the actress did not expect to win the Oscar – and even forgot about the award at the time. In her place, actress Raquel Welch took the stage in Los Angeles to accept the award and say Hawn was unable to film.
Call at 4am
The American remembers: “Then I woke up at 4 a.m. to a phone call. It was a man’s voice saying: ‘Hey, congratulations, you did it’ – ‘I got what?’ – ‘You got the Oscar for best supporting actress.”” After that she called her parents and cried a lot.
Hawn was 24 when she won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. The success didn’t stop thereafter: With “Shampoo” and “A very crooked tour” she established her reputation as a comedy star. ‘Saint Benjamin’ was a box office hit in 1980 and earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actor. In addition to her film career, she devotes herself to social tasks. Her foundation, The Hawn Foundation, established in 2003, helps children with emotional problems to cope with stress.
