Ulla Kock am Brink: She doesn’t put herself under any pressure

Ulla Kock am Brink returns with the game show “The Perfect Minute”. Different pairs of candidates play for up to 25,000 euros.

In September 2022, Ulla Kock am Brink (61) returned to TV with her successful show “The 100,000 Mark Show”. Now the moderator is celebrating another comeback. From March 13, 2023, she will be leading the game show “The Perfect Minute” on Sat.1, Monday to Friday at 7:00 p.m., which she last moderated around ten years ago.

The show moves to the slot of the low-rated game show “Mein Mann kann”. Will “The Perfect Minute” do better with the audience? “I’ve learned not to be impressed by the pressure of quotas,” explains Kock am Brink in an interview with spot on news. “I think the 7:00 p.m. time slot offers a nice, exciting offer for families. The rules are not complicated, you get suggestions for future game nights or parties and there’s excitement free of charge,” says the moderator confidently.

You last moderated “The Perfect Minute” more than ten years ago, now you are returning to TV with the show. Did you ever think you would host the show again?

Ulla Kock am Brink: Things often happen in the media industry that surprise you. I can’t answer the question with no, because I just didn’t think about it. I only knew that the show was being produced when the request came. But I was happy!

What changes in the show and what stays the same?

Ulla Kock am Brink: In a maximum of ten rounds, a wide variety of candidate pair constellations play for prizes of up to 25,000 euros. The focus of the show are some bizarre games that come exclusively from materials from a normal household: pens, paper clips, cups, balls, soap, flippers, lemons. It’s crazy what the game inventors have come up with. Here the limits of physics are tested. The couples have two to three weeks to practice the games. And on stage, it’s all about demonstrating tactics, having fun with the game, perfect teamwork and a great deal of instinct.

It is played in pairs. Have you and your husband tested one or the other game yourself? How do you think you would fare as a team?

Ulla Kock am Brink: If we want our relationship to remain harmonious, we should never practice the games! I just don’t have the patience for it. And my fine motor skills, which are essential for our games, are enough for finely chopped vegetables, and that’s about it.

How much does your husband support you in your TV career?

Ulla Kock am Brink: I have management for that. My husband supports me by cheering me up when I’m slacking, standing by my side and just being there for me. By the way, I’ll get my coffee myself.

In contrast to the past, the show runs every day at 7 p.m. Would you have preferred 8:15 p.m. once a week?

Ulla Kock am Brink: Even then there were considerations to broadcast the show daily – in some countries it was done that way. A few years ago, Sat.1 chose the primetime variant. I think the 7:00 p.m. time slot offers a nice, exciting offer for families. The rules aren’t complicated, you get suggestions for future game nights or parties and there’s excitement delivered to your home.

The film is being shot in Cologne, you now live with your husband on Sylt. Sounds like a lot of commuting?

Ulla Kock am Brink: That’s unfortunately true – but we practice patience, take the train and simply enjoy the time at home even more.

The eve is a difficult patch. They replace the low-rated game show “Mein Mann kann”. How big is the pressure to deliver better ratings?

Ulla Kock am Brink: I’ve learned not to be impressed by the pressure of ratings. I myself have no influence on the station, the time slot, the programming, etc. I can only design and present the show in the best possible way, make it my own and show the fun and communication with the candidate couples.

Would you also like celebrity editions of “The Perfect Minute”? Who would you like to have there?

Ulla Kock am Brink: Which real celebrity has two weeks to practice our crazy games? I’m rather careful there. You can’t perform without training beforehand, and that’s what matters. dream celebrities? (With emphasis if desired): Sean Penn, Denzel Washington, Christoph Waltz, Marleen Lohse, Armin Rohde, Mariele Millowitsch, Andrea Sawatzki, Henny Reents, Anna Loos – like those. (laughs)
