He was one of the great astronomers and humanists of the 15th century. The findings of Nikolaus Kopernikus and Johannes Kepler, who are researching him, are based on the work of Georg von Peuerbach (1423–1461). May 30th marks the 600th anniversary of the scientist’s birthday, which is why the Communale – the successor format to the state exhibitions held in Eferding for the first time in 2022 – is spreading out for five months in his birthplace.

Let’s get an idea

Paintings of profane people were frowned upon during Peuerbach’s lifetime. That’s why there is no picture of the important researcher, “so we’re trying to get a picture of him,” says Governor Thomas Stelzer (ÖVP).

With a budget of 2.4 million euros, the round dance is being designed by the cultural directorate (project manager Verena Karner) together with the state’s culture GmbH (LKG director Alfred Weidinger) under the title “Cosmos. New Worlds”.

An exhibition in the Castle Museum, starting with Georg von Peuerbach, will deal with the chronology of astronomical findings up to the Austrian Space Forum (OeWF), including the expansion of human space into space. In the inner courtyard, Luke Jerram and Johannes Steininger from Linz present an inflatable moon ball or a foil object also filled with air, including an acoustic excursion to the planets.

The first level of the “Kometor” created by Manfred and Billa Hebenstreit in 2010 has been given a new design by Ars Electronica Solutions. Visitors can simulate astronautical missions to the moon or to Mars. In the Cosmic Sound Park, musicians will play at barbecues, in the old watchmaker’s house Barbara Lindmayr will create a kind of time capsule framed by a three-dimensional drawing.

In cooperation with Schäxpir, the international theater festival for young people, the sound installation “Anna” (based on the graphic novel of the same name by Mia Oberländer), which revolves around drama and dance, will be set in motion in the former textile department store Schmidauer. Anah Filou and Stefan Rois create “audio stories” together with composer Ralph Mothwurf. ART St. Pius of Caritas Upper Austria organizes workshops for people with disabilities.

A lavish offer that could gain wings through participation.
