Carrie Fisher’s Star on the Walk of Fame: Daughter Billie Lourd Doesn’t Invite Family

The “Star Wars” icon Carrie Fisher (1956-2016), who died in 2016, will receive a special posthumous honor. The actress who played Princess Leia is honored with a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame. Fisher’s daughter, actress Billie Lourd, 30, will attend the ceremony and unveil the star. Fisher’s siblings Todd (65), Joely (55) and Tricia Leigh Fisher (54), however, are not invited. After they had shown their displeasure about it and in statements, Lourd also made a statement.

“Capturing My Mother’s Death”

she confirms that she did not invite Fisher’s siblings to the ceremony this Thursday (May 4). “You know why,” explains Lourd. “Days after my mother’s death, her brother and sister decided to process their grief publicly and capitalize on my mother’s death by conducting multiple interviews and selling individual books for large sums, with the death of my mother and my grandmother was the topic,” she explains. They never consulted her or considered “how this would affect our relationship,” Lourd said in a statement. “While I recognize that they have every right to do as they please, their actions at the most difficult time of my life were very hurtful to me.”

Todd Fisher previously told TMZ that it was “heartbreaking and shocking that I was deliberately excluded from attending this important event for my sister Carrie.” His two sisters explained in an Instagram post, “For some bizarre, misguided reason, our niece decided not to include us in this epic moment in our sister’s career. Carrie would definitely have wanted her siblings to be there.”

Todd Fisher spoke out and defended himself again after Billie Lourd’s statement. In the statement, he stressed, “We made every attempt to speak to Billie’s team about the invitation before making any public comments.” He also denies Billie Lourd’s allegation that he benefited from Carrie Fisher’s death: “I did not capitalize on the death of Carrie or the death of my mother Debbie and I did not mean to hurt Billie in any way. […] After seven years, I finally found out where she stands. But can’t we stand together for a moment, put our differences aside, and celebrate Carrie Fisher’s legacy the way she deserved and the way she would have wanted?”

Carrie Fisher died on December 27, 2016 at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack on a flight from London to Los Angeles. Fisher’s mother and Lourd’s grandmother, Debbie Reynolds (1932-2016), died the following day at the age of 84 from complications of a stroke.
