“Victoria’s Secret”: fashion show comes back as a feature film

The legendary fashion show by “Victoria’s Secret” celebrates its comeback. Instead of a catwalk show, it will be staged as a feature film.

After heavy criticism and a four-year break, the “Victoria’s Secret” show returns in 2023 in a new format: the lingerie brand is presenting its collection as a feature film for the first time, as it and announces. Billed as “The Victoria’s Secret Tour,” the film is set to follow a group of 20 creatives from around the world as they conceive four fashion shows in Bogotá, Lagos, London and Tokyo.

In addition to tailor-made “Victoria’s Secret” designs, the representatives from the fields of fashion, design, film, music and fine arts should “conceive, produce and stage their own collection”. The focus of this is the “appreciation and beauty of women”. The film, which is available for streaming internationally, follows the creation process and shows the end result. A live fashion event is also planned for the fall.

Film to show “transformation of the brand”.

“We’re excited to launch a completely reimagined version of the runway show while bringing back the very best in entertainment and fashion,” the label’s chief customer officer, Chris Rupp, quoted the magazine as saying. “This film is the ultimate expression of the transformation of the ‘Victoria’s Secret’ brand,” adds Creative Director Raúl Martinez. “It’s fueled by fashion, glamor and entertainment, with a nod to beloved icons from the past but in a redefined way,” he adds.

At the beginning of March, a spokesman for the brand told the US magazine “People” in a statement that the company wanted to work for women – a new guiding principle that was introduced after repeated criticism. Among other things, the label was accused of cementing harmful ideals of beauty and not being inclusive enough. As a result, his show was canceled in 2019.

“Victoria’s Secret” replaces his “Angels”

In 2021, “Victoria’s Secret” replaced its willowy, lightly clad models with new figureheads. Instead of letting top models walk the catwalk, the “VS Collective” was intended to signal support for the interests of women. Among others, the US soccer player Megan Rapinoe (37), the freestyle skier Eileen Gu (19), the actress Priyanka Chopra (40) as well as the model Paloma Elsesser (31) and Valentina Sampaio (26), the first transgender Model at “Victoria’s Secret”.

The first “Victoria’s Secret” show took place in 1995. The highlight of the show from 2001 was the “Fantasy Bra”, a jewel-studded bra that one of the models, also known as “Angels”, wore on the catwalk.
