Andreas Kieling: animal filmmaker attacked by a bear

Animal filmmaker Andreas Kieling was attacked by a bear last week. He posted disturbing pictures on Facebook.

The well-known animal filmmaker Andreas Kieling (63) has published disturbing pictures on Facebook. On Sunday morning he posted two photos on his official account, taken immediately after a bear attack. (Caution: trigger warning) Kieling sits on the ground covered in blood, a head and hand injury can clearly be seen. you can see his destroyed jacket. Kieling writes: “Bear attack a week ago while filming about rare waterfowl in the High Carpathians!”

The Carpathians are a roughly 1,300 km long mountain range in central, eastern and south-eastern Europe, stretching across Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine and Romania. Smaller parts also protrude to Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Serbia. In his post, Kieling emphasizes that the bear is doing well: “He just followed his instincts! I’m fine again!”

Andreas Kieling is considered one of the most well-known wildlife filmmakers in Germany. In October 2015 he was presented with the Federal Cross of Merit for his services. For many years, Kieling has been producing his films and documentary series, primarily for ZDF and Arte. Again and again he takes a seat on relevant topics in talk shows and represents his political opinion there in matters of nature conservation and species extinction.
