“Queen Charlotte”: The selection of the music is of particular importance

The composition of the soundtrack in “Queen Charlotte” is by no means accidental. In fact, there is a special message behind it.

Elaborate hairstyles, colorful costumes: “Queen Charlotte” is in no way inferior to the main series. The spinoff tells the story of the eponymous “Bridgerton” character, who was England’s first Black Queen.

The “Queen Charlotte” soundtrack should also inspire many fans, especially because the music selection has a special meaning, as music supervisor Alexandra Patsavas revealed in an interview with “Netflixwoche”.

Only pop songs that were “written, sung, or made famous by Black women were included in the soundtrack. That seemed like a really essential part of storytelling to me.”

“Queen Charlotte”: The music selection is so special

Patsavas reveals that she also thought about what the young queen might have heard. Historically she must have heard Mozart, Haydn or Handel, but Patsavas wasn’t content with that.

“Music has a wonderful emotional component. It helps tell the story and allows you to really empathize with the actors.” As with “Bridgerton”, well-known songs were played by an orchestra for the soundtrack.

The songs “Deja Vu” by Beyoncé, “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston and “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys made it into the series.

Alicia Keys was very touched on Instagram, as reported by “SWR3”. Because her hit was recorded by an all-female orchestra. Keys wrote in a post: “Reinterpreting ‘I Ain’t Got You’ with this 70+ piece Global Orchestra made up entirely of women of color is SOOOOO crazy! I had REAL tears in my eyes watching this recorded.”

The effort did not go unnoticed, with critics from “Klassikradio” praising the “unique soundtrack” that combines “classical music from the 18th century” with “new compositions”.
