US TV chef: Martha Stewart at the age of 81 as a swimwear cover model

She found success as a stockbroker, presenter, TV chef, author and businesswoman. And now she has also become the cover girl of “Sports Illustrated” magazine – and that at an advanced age.

At 81, US presenter and TV chef Martha Stewart has become the oldest model to date to appear on the cover of the coveted swimwear issue of Sports Illustrated magazine. The US magazine noted that she made history for the publication. The photos were taken in the Dominican Republic.

It was quite a challenge for her to pose in a bathing suit, the 81-year-old told the New York Times. There was some vanity involved, but also some self-confidence. “I thought, if I feel physically and mentally good enough to do something like this, then I’m ready for it.” When the offer came, she also said to herself: “I don’t have to stick to conventions.” You only had two months to prepare. Among other things, she trained Pilates three times a week.

A multi-talent

Also known as “America’s Best Housewife,” Stewart has made a career as a model, stockbroker, presenter, TV chef, author, and businesswoman. When her now-sold company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia, went public in 1999, she became America’s first self-made billionaire. But there were also downsides: In 2002, she was sentenced to five months in prison for insider trading, among other things.

“She’s never let circumstances dictate results in her life,” said Swimwear Editor-in-Chief MJ Day. Stewart has changed over time, but has always been one step ahead. This is how she built her business empire.

This year’s issue of “Sports Illustrated Swimsuit” appears with four different titles. On the others are the Cologne-born singer and Grammy award winner Kim Petras (30) as well as Megan Fox (37) and Brooks Nader (27), as the publication further announced.
