Christie’s auction house will put up for sale a series of images from the book “Sex”, starring the Queen of Pop.
More than 30 years ago, the photographer steven meisel made a catalog of photographs together with the then controversial singer Madonna. The compilation was exhibited, together with the studio album Eroticain the iconic book “gender“which became the best seller in history in its category.
The mythical copy was published one day after Madonna released her fifth studio album in October 1992, and spent three weeks at the top of the best-seller list of the New York Times. Now the auction house Christie’s of NY will put up for sale 40 images made individually for the book, the next October 6.

Celebrations for the anniversary of the iconic book, published in 1992began in October of last year with a reissueand will continue with the auction next October.
Thirty years ago I published a book called gender. In addition to photos of me naked, there were photos of men kissing men, women kissing women, and me kissing everyone. I also wrote about my sexual fantasies and I shared my point of view on sexuality in an ironic way”, the artist wrote on her Instagram, announcing the auction.
When will the auction be?
“Madonna x Meisel. The photographs of Sex” is the title of the auction for which 40 of these photographs will be put up for sale individually. According to Darius HimesDirector of Photography for Christie’s, “the red-hot energy that Madonna emitted in the ’90s was immortalized through the photographs of Steven Meisel, who knew how to capture the queen of pop’s allure and sexuality in a way that was second to none.” “It has become clear how truly iconic those photographs remain,” he said.
Prior to the auction, a selection of the photographs will be displayed to the public at Londonfrom May 23 to June 2, and in Paris, from June 27 to July 6. Then they will be exhibited at NY from September 30 to October 6, when the auction will take place.
