More than 2.6 million views in two days: Otto Waalkes is extremely popular on TikTok. The rapper Ski Aggu played his part in this – who took on the old Otto hit “Friesenjung”.
“Please Otto please, please Otto please”: A whole stadium shouts out this wish – cheered on by the rapper Ski Aggu ). The addressee is the comedian Otto Waalkes. He should please give his approval for the use of his song “Friesenjung”. On Friday, Ski Aggu will release a song with Dutch artist Joost Klein that also uses a high-pitched sample of Otto’s song.
So it’s high time that the comedian made his commitment. At least the publicly staged dramaturgy gives this impression: a whole stadium full of people is calling for Otto. Meanwhile, countless fans on social media are asking the comedian to give his approval – and he grants the request.
Otto Waalkes with TikTok premiere
With a loud “Holladahiti” the 74-year-old made his debut on Tuesday on the TikTok platform. A proud age to start all over again. In his second video, the East Frisian gave his official blessing for using the sample.
In the split screen you can see on the left half of the picture how Otto listens to the song with interest, nods his head, frowns at the line of text “Motherfucker, I kiss your sister”, but then beams along with the refrain. On the right half you can see the two artists: Ski Aggu with a mullet hairstyle, Joost Klein with a kilt, both with ski goggles – who get off the S-Bahn and perform wild dances on the platform. The clip was viewed 2.6 million times in just two days. Otto conquered the new platform in record time.
Will the summer hit come from Ski Aggu and Otto?
In 1993, Waalkes released a quirky cover of Sting’s hit “Englishman In New York.” “I don’t drink coffee, I take tea, my dear” became “You drink coffee, I drink tea at my place”, and the Englishman in distant New York became a Frisian boy behind the dike.
“Friesenjung” became a kind of signature song for Otto. In 2018 he even rocked the heavy metal festival in Wacken with it and got the crowd singing the song even after his performance ended.
Now the fun number is also causing enthusiasm at the concerts of the rapper Ski Aggu. And thanks to Otto’s help, it could become the hit of the coming festival season. In view of the ingenious PR strategy of the artists involved, that would come as no surprise.
