The extreme mountaineer Luis Stitzinger died after a tour in the Himalayas. His wife took a touching farewell on social media.
The Allgäu extreme mountaineer Luis Stitzinger died in an accident at the age of 54 in the Himalayas. That reported on Tuesday (May 30). The mountaineer was initially reported missing on the eight-thousander Kangchenjunga. A search team made up of several Sherpas then found the lifeless body of the Allgäu man at an altitude of 8,400 meters. The exact cause of death has not yet been determined. Stitzinger’s wife Alix von Melle (51) now touchingly said goodbye.
For several pictures showing the well-known mountaineer and extreme skier, she wrote: “Dear Luis, the mountains were your life and ours.” The Kangchenjunga was his “great lifelong dream” that he still wanted to fulfill. “Your eyes shone with excitement when you talked about him,” says von Melle, who has been married to Stitzinger since 2011. “The 25 years by your side were the best of my life,” she continues. “Thank you for letting me accompany you during this time. With deep love, gratitude and infinite sadness – we still had so many dreams that we wanted to fulfill…”
