She is one of the most famous con artists in the world: Anna Sorokin. Shortly after her release from prison, the impostor shows how much she has learned from incarceration. She currently owes her ex-lawyer more than $152,000.
She became known worldwide through the Netflix documentary series “Inventing Anna”: Anna Sorokin, who is said to have cheated friends, hotels and business partners out of hundreds of thousands of dollars for years under the pseudonym Anna Delvey.
After a conviction, she ended up in prison in 2019, and almost four years later she was released early for good behavior. She is currently under house arrest and is allowed outside once a week. In her apartment in New York City, the 32-year-old is wearing an ankle bracelet and is waiting to be deported back to Germany.
Sorokin is accused of spreading lies about ex-lawyer
It is now evident that Sorokin cannot let go of her old behavior patterns – only a few weeks after her release from prison. According to the New York Post, the native Russian owes her ex-lawyer Audrey A. Thomas more than 152,000 US dollars, the equivalent of around 142,000 euros. And in order not to have to pay them and to put more pressure on Thomas, Sorokin is supposed to spread lies about them.
Bad deeds, good looks

In recent years, Thomas has represented Sorokin in two different lawsuits. It is said to have been about Sorokin’s immigration to the United States on the one hand and the imprisonment of the fraudster on the other. For Sorokin, the lawyer obviously did not fulfill her task satisfactorily: in April 2022, the fraudster fired Thomas – and at the same time sued her under civil law.
According to the complaint, Thomas Sorokin is said to have withheld important documents for her deportation to Germany. Thomas himself has not yet commented on this.
collapse in court
The legal dispute then escalated during the court case in March of this year. Thomas collapsed during negotiations with Sorokin in New York’s civil court, was taken to a hospital by ambulance. Even before the trial, she had complained of heart pain and chest pressure.
But Sorokin’s renewed feud against her won’t let the lawyer sit on her own. She was able to enforce a court order that prevented Sorokin’s planned deportation – which would have saved her from paying the horrendous legal debts – at least prematurely. In November last year, Thomas lost her license to practice law after she allegedly stole money from an elderly client. However, the professional ban “does not cancel the balance sheet that the defendant owes” to her ex-lawyer, according to the indictment.
After Netflix documentary: podcast in planning
The imposter, however, does not let this bother her. After the 2022 Netflix documentary series “Inventing Anna” produced by “Bridgerton” director Shonda Rhimes, Sorokin plans to further expand her media presence.
As “Deadline” reports, a separate podcast entitled “The Anna Delvey Show” is being planned in cooperation with “Audio Up”, in which the 32-year-old will be interviewed by stars such as Julia Cumming, Whitney Cummings, Julia Fox, Jeremy Harris and Emily Ratajkowski should be heard.
