Amira Pocher grew up without a father – that has strongly influenced her image of men overall. In the podcast “Die Pochers”, which she runs together with her husband Oliver Pocher, the 30-year-old gave a deep insight into her childhood and youth.
Amira Pocher was born in 1992 in Klagenfurt, Austria, when she was three years old, her father left the family and moved back to his native country of Egypt. After that, she did not see him again for many years. Growing up without a father was “hell”, Pocher admits in the podcast: “I didn’t think it was nice to grow up without a father.” This meant that she “always looked for father figures as a child”.
Amira Pocher: “I was so in love with the fathers of my girlfriends”
Amira Pocher described what it looked like: “I was so in love with the fathers of my girlfriends and I always wished that it was my father. My teachers, the male school psychologists, director – I was always looking to be close to them, in form of conversation.” Throughout her childhood she was looking for “a male reference person”. “I wouldn’t wish that on anyone,” said Pocher. She constantly tried to get confirmation from men.
This also continued into adulthood. “You think men come and go at some point. They are there to have fun for a moment. They appear and disappear again,” she said in conversation with her husband. In 2016 she met Oliver Pocher, who had permanently changed her image of men. It was also her husband who encouraged her to seek contact with her father again as an adult. In 2018, Amira Pocher met her father again – after 20 years without any contact. The relationship now seems better, at least Pocher has occasionally posted photos together in the past.

Incidentally, in the podcast, Amira and Oliver Pocher came up with the topic through a current hook: they talked about actor Al Pacino, who will be a father again at the age of 82. From her own experience, Amira Pocher sees this very critically: It is “highly negligent” because the child is very likely to grow up without a father.
