Donald Trump: election campaign with his mugshot

Former US President Donald Trump surrendered to the authorities in prison – and immediately used his police photo for the election campaign.

Donald Trump (77) is now the first US President with a mug shot. It was recorded at a jail in the US city of Atlanta on Thursday (Aug. 24) and released by the sheriff’s office. Shortly thereafter, the Republican himself also used the recording on his social media and used it as a means of campaign advertising.

Trump writes of a “travesty of justice”

Alongside the words “electoral interference” and “never give up,” Trump posted his mug shot looking grimly at the camera. The former US President wants to run again for the Republicans in the US election in 2024.

At the same time he referred to his website. There he also showed the photo and wrote about his arrest in the “notoriously violent Fulton County jail” even though he had “committed no crime”. He further emphasized: “The American people know what is going on. What has taken place is a travesty of justice and electoral interference.”

The left wanted to intimidate voters into not voting for him. “But today I went into the lion’s den with a simple message on behalf of our entire movement: I will never give up on our mission to save America.” He asked his supporters for a small donation to “push corrupt Joe Biden out of the White House and save AMERICA at this dark chapter in our nation’s history.”

After 20 minutes he was able to leave the prison

The procedure in the Fulton County jail, where Trump was briefly arrested on “accusations of extortion and conspiracy”, lasted around 20 minutes. He was given an inmate number, his height and weight were noted, and the color of his eyes and hair was determined. He also had to give his fingerprints. He was then immediately released on $200,000 bail.

The former US President has been charged with 13 counts in Atlanta for influencing the outcome of the 2020 election. Prosecutor Fani Willis gave him until August 25 to face electoral conspiracy charges in Georgia.
