US singer Cher was actually against it, but now it’s coming: her first Christmas album. Other music icons will also be heard on it.
American pop icon Cher is releasing her first Christmas album – after a career spanning over 50 years. On “Christmas”, which is released this Thursday, Cher presents 13 tracks, including new interpretations and her own songs. Some she sings in a duo, like “What Christmas Means to Me” with Stevie Wonder or “Drop Top Sleigh Ride” with rapper Tyga. Michael Bublé and Cyndi Lauper are also part of the album.
Cher: “I’m really proud of this”
“This is not your mother’s Christmas album,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). According to her own statements, the singer initially refused to record a stereotypical Christmas album.
“Everyone has done one,” the 77-year-old told The Guardian. She initially responded to the suggestion with a clear “No!” reacted, but then – after much consideration – I decided to do so. Their compromise, an album that is “fun” and doesn’t come with the usual Christmas songs. And ultimately the singer seems really happy with the result. “I never say this about my own albums, but I’m really proud of this one,” she concluded. “It’s one of the greatest highlights of my career.”
