Recently, Til Schweiger made mostly negative headlines. Now he is returning to the spotlight with a new film and many projects and says of himself: “I am at peace with myself.”
Til Schweiger and the scandal are no strangers. Especially in the last few months, the Sonnyboy has had to fight against strong headwinds. For months, the industry talked about Sonnyboy’s “Manta Manta” film because there were allegations about set conditions. Now his new comedy is coming to German cinemas and the actor himself says: “The filming conditions were horror:”
In the middle of the mountains. It’s snowing heavily. It’s windy. Here, in a small cemetery on a mountainside, two best friends tell each other the truth. It’s one of the strongest scenes in the new film Til Silent. On Thursday comes “The best is yet to come!” in German cinemas. It is a comedy that, like so many Schweiger films, is about friendship and love. When asked whether the timing of his new comedy was now overshadowed by the allegations at the time, he replied: “For me personally, the film is not overshadowed by that. Above all, I am happy that it is finally coming to the cinema.”
The film is about this: Felix (Schweiger) and Arthur (Michael Maertens) have been best friends since childhood. They are fundamentally different types. Arthur, type of professionally successful father who lives with his daughter Julie (played by Til Schweiger’s daughter Emma) only speaks English as a matter of principle. He could also be described as a principled person. Someone who just likes to have order at home and otherwise seems a bit quirky. Felix regularly barges in, opens a bottle of alcohol and puts his feet on the table. He is a free spirit and bon vivant – and appears chaotic.
New Schweiger film suitable for Advent
“The filming conditions were terrible because an icy storm was blowing, so we had to shoot the dialogue somewhere else because the sound was unusable,” Schweiger told the German Press Agency about the unusual filming location in the mountains. “Then it started snowing, which was actually great because I love films that take place in the snow. But so much snow came down overnight that we couldn’t get up the mountain because we only had one snow cat,” added the 59 year old.
Schweiger – a heavyweight in the German film industry – didn’t just play one of the two main characters. He was also co-producer and director. The comedy “The best is yet to come!” presented by Constantin Film. is an adaptation of a French material. The comedy, which aims to address big feelings, fits into the Advent season. That’s probably why Constantin Film only presented it now, even though it was shot before the most recent Schweiger film “Manta Manta – Second Part”.
After the scandals – Til Schweiger is filming again
In recent months there has been a debate in the film and media industry about the “Manta” film. In a report, “Spiegel” picked up on allegations about the set conditions there. Constantin Film initiated a review by an external law firm, which presented mixed results. Schweiger then commented in detail in a “Stern” interview in October. He said, among other things: “I don’t want anyone to be afraid of me.” The 59-year-old star also spoke about his alcohol problems and explained that he was in therapy.
“I’m at peace with myself and I can look in the mirror in the morning, despite the mistakes I’ve made and for which I’ve taken responsibility. Not everyone does that,” Schweiger told the German Press Agency. The 59-year-old, who is one of the most famous actors and directors in Germany, added: “I have often asked myself how these people can look in the mirror. About the allegations in “Spiegel” that were made against the production and, above all, against After I was raised, there wasn’t really much left, so as always, I’m just looking forward.”
In any case, Schweiger doesn’t let the scandals or his own problems slow him down. He develops Currently two scripts at the same time, he cannot yet say when they will be finished. He will also be filming again soon and will be taking on a special role. “The next film I’m in is the new Guy Ritchie film ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’, in which I play a Nazi for the first time, even though I swore I’d never do that. But at I just couldn’t resist him and it was great. He’s also developing two scripts at the same time – “I can’t say when they’ll be finished yet, but I’m determined to realize them.”
