Julianne Moore will star alongside Tilda Swinton “The Room Next Door”the first film in English by the Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar.
The double casting was confirmed by Almodóvar’s production company, El Deseo, this morning with a new post on its Instagram story after months of online speculation and rumors.
“The actresses are placed under the command of the director from La Mancha in a drama between mother and daughter that will be filmed in the spring in New York and Madrid and will be his first film shot in English,” the post said.

The Room Next Door will be Almodóvar’s first feature film project since Parallel mothers of 2021, which debuted at the Venice Film Festival. The film starred Penelope Cruzwho won the Best Actress award at Venice, and Milena Smith like single mothers who got pregnant by accident and find themselves in a hospital room when they are about to give birth.
The upcoming feature will also mark the filmmaker’s second recent attempt at making films in English. In 2022, Almodóvar had abandoned directing a film in which Cate Blanchett would star in and produce under his Dirty Films label. The feature-length project was first announced in January 2022 and was based on the 43-part short story collection by Lucia Berlinwhich examines the lives of women working a wide variety of demanding jobs.
Desire has yet to share any details about the plot of The Room Next Door. Swinton previously teased about his involvement in the project during an interview with a French culture magazine. She and Almodóvar previously collaborated on the short The human voice.
