Alarm to the Queen: armed man enters Windsor Castle

Uninvited visit to Windsor Castle: In the morning a burglar set off the alarm. Queen Elizabeth is currently spending her Christmas vacation in the castle.

The police and security forces at Windsor Castle arrested an intruder on Saturday morning. According to a report by the BBC, the 19-year-old was armed. Queen Elizabeth II is currently spending her Christmas holidays with members of the royal family in Windsor. The incident therefore made headlines.

As the Thames Valley district police announced, the alarm was triggered around 8:30 a.m. British time. The intruder did not seem to get far. He is said to have been arrested shortly after entering the security area. The man had not entered a building and had not met any member of the Royal Family, as the police emphasized.

It is currently unknown which weapon the 19-year-old was carrying and what the reason for his intrusion was. The incident is currently being investigated. The man is in custody. A judge has to decide whether he remains in custody. There is no danger to the public.

Not the Queen’s first intruder

It’s not the first time the Queen has had to deal with burglars. In 1982 Michael Fagan overcame all security precautions and actually made it to the Queen’s bedroom in Buckingham Palace in London. Elizabeth II is said to have remained calm and asked him in astonishment: “What are you doing here?”

The incident is also featured in the fourth season of the hit Netflix series “The Crown”. In the film, the Queen engages the burglar in a minute-long conversation before the security forces arrive. In an interview, Fagan presented the situation very differently. “She ran past me out of the room,” he told the British newspaper “The Independent” in 2012. “Her little bare feet ran across the hallway. Her nightgown was printed with flowers and came up below her knees.”
