The Joker sequel could debut at the Venice Film Festival

The 81st edition of the Venice Film Festival will be held from August 28 to September 28.

The next Venice Film Festival is shaping up to be a star-studded event with Lady Gaga, Joaquin Phoenix, Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, Johnny Depp, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Gal Gadot and Ana de Armas among the top Hollywood talents likely to be involved with high-profile title launches from the Lido.

Although the director of the festival, Alberto Barbera, has not yet seen several works presented that are likely to make the cut, a group of worldwide fashion films have already secured a coveted place in Venice according to the Variety portal.

The films that could premiere at the Venice Film Festival

“Joker 2: Folie à Deux”the daring musical sequel to Todd Phillips The 2019 Golden Lion-winning “Joker,” starring Gaga and Phoenix, is a sure bet in the competition, along with the biopic of Maria Callas of Pablo Larrain“Maria,” starring Jolie in the lead role.

The adaptation of William S. Burroughs “Queer” Luca Guadagninoin which Daniel Craig plays the alter ego of renowned counterculture author, a disenfranchised American expatriate living in Mexico and battling a heroin addiction. The “Outer Banks” star Drew Starkeyalso plays a younger man with whom the expatriate falls madly in love.

Also in the mix are the action comedy directed by Jon Watts “Wolfs”which pairs Clooney and Pitt as two lone wolves forced to work together to cover up a high-profile crime, and the survival thriller Ron Howard “Eden”made by Jude Law, Ana de Armas, Sydney Sweeney, Vanessa Kirby and Daniel Brühl. But both titles will likely end up out of the competition rather than competing for the Golden Lion.

The criminal mystery of Julian Schnabel “In Dante’s Hand”which has a strong chance of competing on the Lido, features a star-studded cast comprised of Gal Gadot, Oscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Gerard Butler, Al Pacino and Martin Scorsese playing a wise old man who influences Dante Alighieri while writing “The Divine Comedy.” “Dante” is based on the book of the same name by Nick Tosches, which revolves around a manuscript of the poem “The Divine Comedy” by Dante Alighieri found in the Vatican library. The poem goes from being a priest to being a mafia boss in New York City.

Johnny Depp He could also now return to Venice after returning to Cannes last year for his portrayal of King Louis XV in “Jeanne Du Barry.” This time, Depp would be in the lineup as director of “Modi”his biographical film of the Italian artist Amedeo Modiglianistarring the Italian Riccardo Scamarcio as the bad boy painter and sculptor, who worked mainly in France and became famous for the innovative modern style of his portraits and nudes.
