Netflix presents Maria Soledad: The end of silence. A documentary film, directed by Lorena Munozon the femicide of Maria Soledad Moralestold exclusively by her schoolmates.
Thirty years after the murder of María Soledad Morales, her schoolmates, the young women who fought to bring the truth to light, are meeting in Catamarca to commemorate the death of their friend and to retrace the steps of a tragedy that marked a milestone. María Soledad was the first case of femicide recognized in Argentina.
In the words of its director, Lorena Muñoz:
“This film talks about friendship, because even though the crime was reviewed by the press over the years, it was never addressed from the point of view of a social actor who today is the main driving force of gender struggles on the continent: young women. In this case, María Soledad’s friends, those who still remember her crying, those who fought for the truth to come to light and, being minors, became heroines. The forgotten protagonists. A nun and a handful of teenagers fighting injustice with an unexpected weapon: silence. The largest public protest by Pelloni and her students was a long series of marches —82 in total— that attracted an average of 25,000 people at a time. A people who took silence as a weapon of combat and denunciation. They all promised to find the culprit, but what none of them imagined was that this promise would be one of the fundamental driving forces when it came to activating the demands for justice for the femicide of their friend.”
