Reese Witherspoon is working on her first thriller with Harlan Coben. She couldn’t believe the author agreed to this.
“Legally Blonde” star Reese Witherspoon (48) has already made a name for herself as a serious producer with successful series like “Big Little Lies.” Now she is looking for the next challenge behind the camera and is venturing into a significantly different genre than drama or comedy.
She teams up with the American author Harlan Coben (62) for her first thriller. He is the first writer to win the Edgar Allan Poe Award, the Shamus Award and the Anthony Award.
Reese Witherspoon looks forward to “first-ever thriller”
“I’m beyond excited to announce that I’m writing my first-ever thriller with number one bestselling author Harlan Coben,” . The actress herself was surprised about the collaboration: “As a big fan of Harlan’s work, I can’t believe that he agreed to write a novel with me. I’m either the most convincing person in the world or the idea for this book is just TOO GOOD! Maybe both?”
The joint novel is scheduled to be published on October 14, 2025. “To say I’m a fan of Harlan’s work is a massive understatement… the fact that he found my idea for this thriller intriguing enough to want to work with me as a co-author on it is a dream, becomes a reality,” says the actress happily in a statement from publisher Grand Central Publishing, . She and Coben developed the book over several months.
The film adaptation is already in progress
“Planning with Harlan to engage audiences with mysterious characters and complex narrative twists has already been more fun than I can describe. I can’t wait for everyone to read what we’ve imagined,” says Reese Witherspoon.
The author also has nothing but praise. “I’ve been a big fan of Reese Witherspoon for years. […] “Reese’s flair for telling stories across all media is unmatched,” said Coben. “Once we started discussing her idea, there was no turning back.” The collaboration was “a pure pleasure.” A screen adaptation is planned, according to the Report already developed.
