Shawn Mendes: Thanks to therapy, the singer is doing better today

Shawn Mendes has taken a break to deal with his mental health issues. Now he reveals what helped him.

Shawn Mendes (26) is apparently feeling better again. The singer had to cancel his entire world tour in July 2022 due to mental health problems and took a break for himself.

The musician now spoke to his colleague John Mayer (46) about his break and the feeling of feeling “better” in his own skin. Mendes explained that he was able to “return to himself the most” while working on his latest album. “It’s given me so much more than any of my previous albums,” and he hasn’t even shown it to anyone yet.

Mendes also emphasized that humor is also part of finding yourself: “I don’t take myself too seriously. I don’t feel like I wake up every day and slip into the role of Shawn. I feel like I’m awake just as he up.”

Therapy helped Shawn Mendes

Mendes also said that “because of therapy,” the newest part of himself that he likes the most is that he’s “not so extreme anymore.” Elsewhere, the pop star also said: “If someone were to ask, ‘What do you think is the main reason you feel better today?’ take it so seriously.”

The Canadian pop star initially announced his new album “Shawn” for October 18th, but recently postponed the release by a few weeks to November 15th. Mendes released his last album “Wonder” in 2020.

When announcing his new record, the musician explained: “Music can really be medicine. […] Being here now, with twelve beautiful songs finished, feels like a gift.” He thanks God for his friends and family. “Life can be brutal, but when you have a small group of people you trust deeply and those who accompany you make it so much better.”
