Nibble instead of laughing? Musician Sasha reveals in an interview why he had to use raw asparagus for “LOL: Last One Laughing”.
Things get spooky with “LOL: Last One Laughing”! The three episodes of the Halloween special will be available on Amazon Prime from October 21st. Among the candidates for host Bully Herbig’s (56) Don’t Laugh Challenge is singer Sasha (52), who is venturing into unfamiliar territory with the comedy format.
In a team with Annette Frier (50), the musician will try not to laugh for three hours in a small space – and of course in front of a spooky Halloween backdrop. The challengers are Mirja Boes (53) and Torsten Sträter (58), Palina Rojinski (39) and Olaf Schubert (56) as well as Bill and Tom Kaulitz (35). Except for the Tokio Hotel twins and Sasha, all candidates already have “LOL” experience, Boes and Sträter were even able to win a season. In an interview with the news agency spot on news, Sasha reveals how he approached the challenge and what raw asparagus has to do with it.
Unlike most others, you are not a comedian full-time. Was that a disadvantage?
Sasha: If comedians generally find it easier not to laugh, I was clearly at a disadvantage (laughs). I had to concentrate really hard… you can see that.
Who did you suspect was your biggest laughing threat?
Sasha: Everyone was really, really funny in their own way, but my feared opponent beforehand was Olaf Schubert. It hits very often and, above all, unexpectedly, right in the middle of my humor center.
Did you have a special strategy for not laughing?
Sasha: I somehow forgot that something like that was needed. I’ve heard from others that it helps if you nibble on something… in the absence of quick or creative alternatives, I used raw green asparagus.
What was it like for you to form a team with Annette Frier? Did you know each other well beforehand?
Sasha: We knew each other before, but during the preparation we got to know each other again and much better. There were really many beautiful and funny moments.
How would you describe Annette Frier’s humor?
Sasha: Oh… Be careful, her humor is very spontaneous, straight out of the box and always on point!
What is your relationship with Halloween? Are you into spooky things?
Sasha: I love Halloween, but I’m super scared. I love dressing up in scary costumes and scaring the trick or treat kids (laughs).
