Kim Kardashian: Appears with Diana’s cross pendant

Kim Kardashian, 44, turned heads with a special accessory at the LACMA Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday (November 2). The reality TV star placed a necklace with a large cross pendant around her neck that was once worn by Princess Diana (1961-1997). The mother of Prince Harry (40) and William (42) wore the “Attallah Cross” at a charity event in London in 1987. Her friend and the then owner of the necklace, Naim Attallah (1931-2021), lent her the accessory set with amethysts and diamonds.

While Princess Diana wore a black and purple dress with the special piece of jewelry, Kardashian chose a white gown whose deep V-neckline emphasized her cleavage. The thin material clung tightly to her waist and hips before falling loosely down her legs. She paired it with a light cream coat that wrapped around her forearms. Kardashian styled her long bob in a sleek look, and for make-up she chose dark eyeshadow and nude-colored lipstick. In addition to the necklace, she placed a pearl choker around her neck.

Kardashian purchased the royal cross pendant from jewelry manufacturer Garrard at an auction at Sotheby’s auction house in January 2023. It changed hands for 163,800 British pounds. This corresponds to a sum of around 195,000 euros. Originally the expected selling price was between 80,000 and 120,000 pounds. Kardashian prevailed over the other interested parties in a “bidding war” after five minutes.

This isn’t the first time Kardashian has appeared wearing a piece of jewelry or clothing belonging to a famous person. She wore Marilyn Monroe’s (1926-1962) legendary dress to the Met Gala 2022, in which she sang the birthday song “Happy Birthday Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy (1917-1963). In 2017, she purchased items from Elizabeth Taylor’s (1932-2011) jewelry collection at auction. It is also said to have been purchased by, among others, former First Lady Jacky Kennedy Onassis (1929-1994).
