China will sign an “optimized” free trade agreement with Peru

The president of China, Xi Jinping, will visit Peru with 400 businessmen from his country. In addition, they will sign another 30 different agreements to improve cooperation and integration relations between both countries.

China takes a new step in its presence in Latin America. The chancellor of Peru, Elmer Schialer, announced this Friday that the president of the Asian giant, Xi Jinping, will sign an agreement next week to deepen the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) it has with Peru during his visit to Lima. This It would allow trade to increase by at least 50%.

Schialer explained that this signature is a “optimization” of the FTA -in force since 2009-. Another “30 different agreements” will also be signed in Lima to improve cooperation and integration relations between both countries.

Xi Jinping will travel to Peru with a delegation of 400 businessmen interested in investing in infrastructure and technology projects, the Peruvian foreign minister said.

“This is something very important because although (…) China is our main trading partner, Experts estimate that this will increase this dynamism by at least 50%,” he said in an interview with Reuters. Bilateral trade between China and Peru amounted to almost US$36 billion last year.
